Hello everyone. I’m @olivertomolife and I’ve studied abroad in Kaohsiung!
Many people think of Taipei as the capital of Taiwan, but did you know that it used to be a different city?
By reading this article, you can learn about the changes in Taiwan’s capital!
This is because Taiwan’s capital city has changed over the course of history.
In this article, I would like to introduce you to Taiwan’s capital city and Tainan.
Experienced a working holiday in Kaohsiung for one year from February 2020. I am currently writing a blog based on that experience.
Now, I would like to introduce the ancient capital of Taiwan.
Is the ancient capital of Taiwan __?
The current capital of Taiwan is Taipei, but it is said that before 1895, it was an undeveloped area.
In the same year, 1895, the President’s Office was established in Taipei, and since then, Taipei has achieved full-scale development.
In ancient times, Tainan was considered the de facto capital of Taiwan, and its history dates back to the Dutch colonial period from 1624.
Later, a man named Zheng Chengong emerged and defeated the Dutch and formed a government.
He was a soldier of the Ming Dynasty, and it is said that he defended the Ming Dynasty, which was about to be destroyed by the Qing Dynasty, and moved to Taiwan to form a government.
Before he moved to Taiwan, the Dutch ruled Tainan for 37 years.
Tainan has the largest museum in Taiwan!
Tainan is home to the Chi Mei Museum, the largest private museum in Taiwan.
The museum was established by Mr. Hsu Wen-Long, the founder of Chi Mei Industrial, a major manufacturer in Taiwan.
The museum’s predecessor opened in 1992 in one of its own buildings, and has been operating in its current location since 2015.
You can read more about my actual experience at the museum below.
Three of the best places to visit in Tainan!
There are some places in Tainan that should not be missed, especially in Taiwan where there is still a lot of historical culture and architecture.
Among them, Anping Ancient Fort, Tainan Confucius Temple, and Chikan Tower are the most recommended and must-visit places.
This is because they are important places to learn about the history of Tainan.
I actually visited the above places when I was in Tainan, so please read the following article to get a sense of the history.
Summary
- Tainan was the de facto capital of Taiwan in ancient times
- Tainan has the largest private museum in Taiwan
- Many of the buildings in Tainan are historical
In this article, I have introduced the ancient capital of Taiwan and Tainan.
Tainan is a city that cannot be dismissed when it comes to the history of Taiwan.
It is also the place where the first administrative offices were located in Taiwan.
Why Tainan was chosen as the first city is a mystery, but I think you can feel the romance.
This blog is always updated with information about Taiwan.
I would appreciate it if you could share it on social networking sites.
Thank you for reading to the end!
