【Preservation version】 7 Places to Visit in Xiaoliuqiu! How to get there from Kaohsiung!

Have you ever heard of a remote island in Taiwan called Xiaoliuqiu?





It’s a remote island in southern Taiwan where you can see sea turtles during the summer.





It’s a place that not many people in Japan know about, and that’s why I want you to know about it.





I went there in January, during the winter season, and the weather was perfect, making for a great trip!





I’d like to introduce the charm of the famous Xiaoliuqiu as a place where you can feel the wonderful nature of Taiwan!

I experienced a working holiday in Kaohsiung for one year from February 2020. Now I am writing a blog based on that experience.

What is 小琉球?

The official name of Xiaoliuqiu is liuqiu Township, and it is a remote island in Taiwan that belongs to Pingtung County.





It consists of eight villages and has a population of 12,000 on the island.





Prices are lower than on the mainland, and the island is a popular tourist destination for Taiwanese people.





Motorcycles are the main mode of transportation, and cars are few and far between.





The people on the island lived so freely that they didn’t even use helmets on their motorcycles lol.





The ocean’s so beautiful and the scenery so scenic, you should definitely give it a try!

How to get there from Kaohsiung

There are three routes to get to Xiaoliuqiu from Kaohsiung.





There are three ways to get to Xiaoliuqiu from Kaohsiung: go to Donggang in Pingtung and take a ferry.





Don’t forget that you need your passport when you take the ferry.





I recommend the Tai Fu San Shou Kai Boat ferry.





The round-trip cost was $410 NT.

1 Bus

By bus, take the bus at Zhuoying or Kaohsiung Railway Station to Donggang.





You can take the Zhongnan Bus Company, Kaohsiung Bus Company, Pingtung Bus Company, Guoguang Bus Company, etc. to your destination.





If you are worried, make sure to ask if the bus goes to Donggang.

2 Taxis

Cabs can be expensive if you are going alone, so it is recommended to take more than one.





Tell the driver from your location that you want to go to Donggang.

3 Motorcycles

If you are a motorcyclist, you will need to go to the port of Donggang.





If you are coming from Kaohsiung, it will take more than an hour to get there, so it may be a bit tiring.





By the way, you can take your motorcycle on the ferry, so you don’t need to rent a motorcycle at Xiaoliuqiu!





I went with a friend on a motorcycle and we had a great time.





We have a lot of fun!

7 Recommended Places in Xiaoliuqiu

1 Xiaoliuqiu Shield Water – Shield Snow Backpack Guest Jetty SnowDiving

This guesthouse is located in near the sea and you can try diving class as well.





It was a great experience for me.





It’s a great place to stay and you can interact with many different people!

2 Flower Vase Stone

This is the most famous tourist attraction in Xiaoliuquan, where you can see huge rocks.





It is a must-visit place if you come to this place.





Let your eyes feast on the beauty of art created by nature!

3 Shan Zhu Gulou Yun Yi Jia Black Sugar Frosted Qin

Located on the ocean side, the sausages at this store are really good!





The sausages are baked on the spot, so you can taste the freshness.





This is my friend’s favorite place, and we went there many times during our trip.





It’s a good place to go when you’re hungry.

4 Small Ryukyu Yakiniku King

All-you-can-eat barbecue for less than $600 Taiwan dollars!





There are many types of food and the food is delicious, so you will be very satisfied.





If you want to eat a lot of meat, you should definitely try this place!

5 小琉球冰箱冰舖 – 芒果雪花冰專賣店

If you are looking for a delicious dessert, this is the place to go.





The Taiwanese shaved ice is made from carefully selected fruits, and it’s delicious!





During the summer months, the mango shaved ice is highly recommended.

6 Fisherman’s Liquor

All-you-can-eat hot pot for only NT$350 for 90 minutes!





The variety of dishes is large and delicious, so I highly recommend it.





This is a surprisingly little-known place, so I recommend it for a relaxing meal.

7 Barandande & Lin A Ma Trading Co.

If you are looking for a place to drink, this is the place for you.





They have a great selection of drinks and a great atmosphere!
