What are the characteristics of pubs in Taiwan?
Pubs in Taiwan are usually in a format similar to that of the United States or England.
In Taipei, there are a variety of pubs, including those affiliated with world-famous pubs and those run by foreigners.
Basically, all the stores have foreign sports on and lots of liquor bottles on display.
In Kaohsiung, on the other hand, it is better to go to the stores on the weekends to enjoy the atmosphere, as there is often hardly anyone there except on weekends.
I have the impression that most of the bars in Kaohsiung are clustered in Judangan and Yanchengpu.
Three recommended pubs in Kaohsiung
1 Foster Hewitt’s 2 Ka Feng Er Branch
This is a Canadian-style pub located a short distance away from the Arena Station, and it serves delicious pizza.
The inside of the restaurant is also stylish, and foreigners visit on weekends.
They have events every day, so you can get a cheap drink!
This is an English-style pub located near the Aozihdi train station.
You’ll feel like you’re in England inside this place, so I highly recommend it!
They have a wide variety of whiskeys, so be sure to try them out!
3 Niujin Bar and Restaurant
This pub is located a short walk from Yanchengpu station.
It is like a sports bar, where you can enjoy a drink while watching various sports.
There are also a variety of side dishes to choose from, which you can order along with your drink.
Are Taiwanese people less likely to drink alcohol?
As you all know, Taiwan is a motorcycle society.
As a result, the culture seems to be less in the habit of drinking alcohol.
In fact, my Taiwanese friends don’t drink much either.
Personally, I felt that many people drink alcohol at home instead of outside.
I think you can save money that way.
It’s interesting because the culture is the opposite of what we have in Japan!
Extra: What is a Taiwanese style tavern (hot stir-fry)?
Hot Chili is an izakaya where you can enjoy Taiwanese home-style food, mainly seafood, meat, and vegetable dishes.
Many places charge $100 Taiwan dollars for a single menu item, which makes them popular among citizens.
All restaurants serve Taiwanese beer, and in some cases, rice is free.
However, there are some places that rip you off, so be careful.
3 Recommended Hot Fried Restaurants in Kaohsiung
1 Asake Hot Fry Tavern
This restaurant is located near the Love River and has a Japanese-style design.
The beer is cheap and they have a Japanese menu.
They have plenty of seafood and other delicacies to choose from, so do go!
2 Le First Hot Fried Fish-Shaped Cakes
This restaurant is located near the Central Park and is like a Japanese izakaya.
I recommend it because it has a good balance of vegetable, meat, and fish dishes.
The portions are large, so it’s better to go with more than one person.
And the service from the staff was great!
3 Tokyo Small Castle (Wufuku Branch)
This store is very conveniently located right outside the train station.
I recommend it because of its Japanese design and affordable prices.
The beef fried rice is especially delicious, so be sure to try it when you get there!

- If you want to socialize, go to a pub on the weekend.
