How much is the cost of living in Sydney for one month?

Sydney cost of living

In general, living in Sydney in a single room will cost you 140,000 yen.

If you want to have a comfortable life, you will need about 150,000 yen.

A large part of this is rent, so the cost of living will depend on how inexpensive you can find housing.

If you are an exchange student or a regular student, you can save on rent by living in a student dormitory.

While the cost of living is high in Sydney, the wages are also high at 1500 yen per hour.

If you work at a local job, you can earn a good living wage.

Three ways to save money on living expenses in Sydney

Sydney save money

1 Live in the suburbs of Sydney

The rent in the central area of Sydney is at least 60,000 yen, and even higher for a single room.

On the other hand, rent in the suburbs is comparatively cheaper and is recommended.

Chatswood and Ashfield are recommended as places where life is convenient.

In both places, there are plenty of stores around the station where you can buy daily necessities.

2 Cook your own food as much as possible

Eating out in Sydney costs more than 1000 yen on average.

Dinner can cost close to 2,000 yen, so try to save money by cooking for yourself.

Some of the international students I met were not good at cooking, but they said it was no problem once they got used to it.

I wasn’t much of a cook myself, but I got used to it the more I cooked, so you should be fine!

3 Use drinking water

There are delicious looking beverages available at the supermarket, but if you buy them every time, it will affect your living expenses.

Also, too much sugar is not good for your health, so I saved money by using tap water at home.

Tap water in Australia is drinkable straight from the tap, so you can put it in a bottle and take it anywhere.

Water sold in supermarkets can be more expensive than Coke, so there are ways to make use of the water at home.

What you need to know about rent prices in Sydney when you live there

Sydney house

Let’s take a look at the rent as it varies depending on the room you live in.

1 Single room

For those who are concerned about their privacy, renting a private room in a property is a good option.

You can have your own room, although the living room, kitchen, and bathroom are shared.

In central Sydney, you can share a room in an apartment or a house for rent.

The average cost is about $180-$230 per week.

2 Single Room with Bathtub

This property, called a master room, has the advantage of using your own personal room and bath tub.

It is also larger than a typical single room.

However, the rent is also higher, so there are ways to save on rent by sharing a room with two other people.

The average cost is about $210~$360 per week.

3 Room sharing

This is one of the most popular ways to live in Sydney, sharing a room with multiple people.

You may live with people you don’t know, but this is a great way to socialize and save on rent.

In this case, be careful not to get into trouble with your roommate.

When you get to know each other well, you will be able to trust each other, so you will be less likely to have problems.

It costs about $130~$200 per week on average.

4 Living room sharing

In a corner of the living room of the property, there are curtains drawn and a bed and sofa.

There is very little privacy and the noise is very loud, so this is for those who only need a place to sleep.

This is a place where you have to be very careful with your valuables.

Be sure to check the owner and the people who live there, and make a decision.

Conclusion

Sydney study
  • Living in a single room in Sydney is about 140,000 yen.
  • Save on living expenses by living in the suburbs or cooking for yourself.
