Hello everyone. I’m @olivertomolife and I’ve studied in Sydney!
I’m sure you have a lot of anxiety when looking for a job in Australia.
There are a lot of things to worry about when looking for a job in Australia, but by taking care of the 5 things I’m about to introduce, I was able to find a job without any worries!
The way you look for a job and your resume should be different from the country you live in.
If you are looking for tips on how to find a job in Australia, this is a must-see.
I experienced studying in Sydney for a year starting in 2018. Currently, I am writing a blog about my experience.
By reading this post, you’ll get to know about looking for a job in Australia!
Five things you need to know about job searching
1 You don’t need your gender on your resume
I was surprised when I found out about this because in Japan, you need to write your gender on your resume.
You also do not need to write about your age or nationality.
On top of that, resumes for part-time jobs in Australia are simple, so it is very easy to prepare.
The following website is a good reference on how to write a resume.
2 Hand out resumes in numbers
In conclusion, you need to hand out a lot of resumes when looking for a job in Australia because, basically, you will not be taken seriously.
Also, there are some stores that don’t have any job openings, so you need to do it in numbers.
In fact, a friend of mine was able to find a job by handing out resumes all over town.
So it is a good idea to be proactive and go out and hand them out.
3 Be ready for an interview at any time.
Generally speaking, interviews are scheduled on a day-to-day basis, but in Australia, interviews may be held on the spot.
I believe that you will encounter this kind of opportunity more often than not, as the stores may have time management issues.
For this reason, I recommend that you prepare for interviews on a regular basis.
The more prepared you are, the better you will be able to handle various situations and the less anxious you will be.
By all means, prepare yourself little by little on a daily basis!
4 Get information from friends and language exchange meetings
Friends
The friends you make at language schools and share houses are an invaluable source of information.
If you ask them questions, they may be able to help you find a job.
I have also received information about jobs and vacancies from them.
Don’t hesitate to ask them questions and have a fulfilling study abroad experience!
Language exchange meetings
Surprisingly, you may also be able to get information about jobs through language exchange opportunities, so I recommend that you participate.
You can find famous social events in Sydney on a website called meetup.
You can also find them on the app, which is convenient because you can easily search for them when you have time!
I often used this app to participate in social gatherings and practice my English.
There are many events on Fridays and weekends, so be sure to check them out!
5 Check the minimum wage
This is probably the most important point in your job search.
It is very dangerous to work without checking the average hourly wage.
This is because it is possible that the management is breaking the law and you could get involved.
However, many part-time jobs in Asian countries pay less than the minimum wage because the pay is handed out in many places.
Therefore, you should check the minimum wage before looking for a job.
3 of the most popular job sites in Australia!
1 Seek
I personally think that Seek has the largest number of jobs and the easiest to use website.
It is a unique Australian job site, so you can trust it.
It’s simple design makes it easy for you to find a job!
Once you’ve registered, give it a try!
2 Gumtree
Gumtree is an online shopping site that also provides job information.
However, I haven’t heard very good things about it, so I think you should be careful when looking for a job.
If you are a frequent user of this site, you may want to give it a try.
3 Indeed
This is a job site that operates worldwide and has a lot of information.
Be aware that there may not be enough information for the type of job you want.
You can use it as you would any other site.
