The 5 most boring places in Kaohsiung

1 Kaohsiung 85 Tower

The most famous skyscraper in Kaohsiung stands 347 meters tall and opened in 1997.

It is the second largest building in Taiwan and opened earlier than the 101 Tower, the most famous building in Taiwan.

From the observation deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kaohsiung, but I personally found it not very impressive.

In its heyday, it had many tenants, but I heard that many floors are now empty.

If you are interested, I think you will be satisfied once you visit.

Kaohsiung 85 Building
  • Address: No. 3, Ziqiang 3rd Rd, Lingya District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 802
  • Opening hours: 9am – 10pm
  • No longer open due to change of owner since October 2019

2 Taroko park mall

Taroko park shopping mall close to Kaohsiung Airport.

It is quite large and has a variety of stores, but I think adults will find it boring as it is a place for children.

The variety of stores is not much different from other shopping malls in Kaohsiung.

On the other hand, it is popular with families and could be a fun place to visit.

It is also easily accessible from the train station.

Taroko park mall
  • Address: No. 1-1, Zhong’an Rd, Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 806
  • Opening hours: Monday – Friday 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 10:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

3 Hanshin Department Store

Hanshin Department Store is a department store located a short distance from the Central Park.

It is not very accessible for a department store in the city, and the contents are almost the same as the Hanshin in the arena.

It has a luxury hotel attached to it, so it might be a good place to stay.

Personally, I don’t think it’s a place you should force yourself to go unless you have something special to do.

Hanshin Department Store
  • Address: No. 266-1, Chenggong 1st Rd, Qianjin District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 801
  • Opening hours: Monday – Thursday, Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Friday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

4 Dadong Culture and Arts Center

Dadong Culture and Arts Center is an arts center located near Dadong Station in Kaohsiung.

Other than the art at the entrance, there is a general library and a regular cafe.

Personally, I expected more, but it was ordinary.

It seems to be a famous place in Taiwan, as Jolin Tsai, a famous singer in Taiwan, once shot a music video there.

Daito Culture and Arts Center
  • Address: No. 161, Guangyuan Rd, Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 83057
  • Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 9pm Sunday, 10am – 5pm
  • Closed: Mondays and national holidays
  • Temporarily closed as of 2021

5 Qijin Rainbow Church

Qijin Rainbow Church is an Instagrammable spot in Qijin, Kaohsiung, but there weren’t many people there.

It looks beautiful depending on how you take the picture, but it is dirty when you actually go there.

And it is located quite far from the port, so I would not recommend going there for this place.

I would recommend going there on a cycling trip.

Qijin Rainbow Church
  • Address: No. 990, Qijin 3rd Rd, Qijin District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 805
  • Opening hours: 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
