How to prepare yourself for living abroad

Australia Sydney

1 Accept the differences between your own culture and that of your country

Foreign cultures are diverse and different, so be open to the culture of your new country.

There may be customs that don’t suit you, but that’s their culture too, so try to experience it.

You may make unexpected discoveries in your life.

2 Live an active life

There is no one abroad who knows who you are!

You are free and invincible. You don’t have to worry about what others think of you, so try many things.

Especially in Australia, there are a lot of people skateboarding in the streets, so if you are interested, give it a try.

3 Don’t lose sight of yourself

I recommend that you make a plan for your life abroad, even if it is a small goal.

It would be a shame to be living abroad without any goals whatsoever!

No matter how small your goal is, think of it before you study abroad.

In my case, I tried to practice conversation every day in the city.

Five things that surprised me about living in Australia

Australia surprised

If you’re planning to go to Australia, you should know these!

1 Milk is cheap

Australia milk

The standard size of milk in Australia is 2 liters.

In Australia, where the land area is large and dairy farming is thriving, milk is very cheap and in large quantities.

What’s more, milk is cheaper than the water they sell!

I ate cereal every morning, so that helped a lot lol.

You can read more about supermarkets in Australia in the following article.

2 Vegemite

Vegemite Australia

Have you ever heard of Vegemite, an Australian condiment?

It is a seasoning made from yeast and salt used in beer brewing, and is often spread on bread.

It tastes very salty and high in salt, so give it a try.

An Australian friend of mine said that if you find Vegemite tasty, you are an Australian lol!

It’s also a great Australian souvenir.

3 Lots of seagulls

Australia seagulls

When I first came to study in Australia, I thought there were just a lot of seagulls, but I have not liked them since I experienced something.

I was eating steak with a friend at one of the many terrace restaurants in Sydney.

I knew there were a lot of seagulls, but the moment I took my eyes off them.

My steak was taken by all the seagulls.

It was my last bite, so I was quite angry.

After that, I started to be more careful when eating outside…

Please be careful too!

4 Vegetables and meat are cheap

This is something that surprised me when I first started cooking for myself after moving into a share house.

In Australia, where eating out is very expensive, I was very grateful for this, and I remember comparing the prices at the supermarkets as they differed slightly.

I was able to use a lot of vegetables and meat for several days.

Chicken was especially cheap, so I often ate it.

5 People from many different countries coexist in harmony

Australia diversity

When I was in college, I lived in Tokyo.

I met foreigners from time to time, but I saw only Japanese people most of the time.

In Sydney, however, people from many different countries live together, and I felt the intermingling of their cultures.

Sometimes I participated in language exchange programs, and now I have good memories of being able to interact with people from countries I had never met in Japan.

Actually talking to them was often a big change from my previous image of them, so by all means, let’s interact!

The following article will introduce you to some of the best places to interact in Sydney.
