Hello everyone. I’m @olivertomolife and I’ve studied abroad in Sydney!
When it comes to Australia, we tend to focus on Sydney, but I highly recommend the Gold Coast in Queensland!
I would like to introduce you to some of the best places to visit on the Gold Coast, which is home to world-class beaches and a treasure trove of precious animals and nature.
I’ll also give you a special introduction to a little-known surprise island, so if you’re outdoorsy and active, this is a must-see!
I experienced studying abroad in Sydney for one year from 2018. Now I am writing a blog based on that experience.
By reading this post, you’ll get to know about the Gold Coast!
Five of the best places to visit on the Gold Coast!
1 Surfers Paradise
Surfers Paradise is one of the world’s most famous beaches, and as the name suggests, it’s a paradise for surfers!
The white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters go on and on, and surprisingly, the length of the beach is about 57 kilometers!
You can surf and swim, but there are other attractions as well, such as the weekly beach markets!
There are many stores selling jewelry, clothes, art, food, and more.
There is also music playing and you can enjoy your time with the sound of the waves.
Other than that, there are lessons for even the most novice of surfers, so why not give it a shot!
2 Q1 – Sky Point Observation Deck
If you want a panoramic view of Surfers Paradise, the Q1 SkyPoint Observation Deck is the place to be!
The tallest skyscraper in Australia at 322.5 meters, this observation deck is a landmark of the Gold Coast and attracts many visitors.
The view of the beach and city from the 78th floor is so beautiful that it will leave you speechless.
Buy a ticket at the entrance and take the elevator to the top floor.
You will be amazed at the speed of the elevator, which will take you from the ground to the top floor in about 40 seconds.
The view is 360 degrees, so you can enjoy the natural and urban scenery.
There is also a place where you can have a drink, so how about it with the best view?
3 Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a zoo located near the airport where you can enjoy the wildlife.
This is a place where you can see kangaroos, crocodiles, and other rare animals, making it a must-visit place.
You can take a photo with a koala, so check the time and join in!
The zoo is very large, so it’s best to wear comfortable clothes for walking.
4 Lamington National Park
Lamington National Park is a popular park that is considered to be one of the two most popular parks on the Gold Coast.
It is loved by the locals as a place where you can walk in the mountains while feeling the great nature.
There are various kinds of animals and wild birds, so it is recommended for nature lovers.
Why don’t you go there when you want to get away from the city and refresh yourself?
5 Moreton Island
Moreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world, and is a resort island that remains in its pristine state.
It is very rare to see an island made entirely of sand in the world!
The biggest attraction of the island is that you can feed the wild dolphins, which attracts many tourists.
There are also activities where you can slide on the sand dunes, so you’ll have lots of fun!
This is an island that will satisfy people of all ages.
History of the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast has been inhabited by indigenous people for more than 20,000 years, but by 1800, European settlement was underway.
Many villas were built and the Gold Coast became a resort for the upper class living in Brisbane.
With the construction of railroads and hotels, the development of the Surfers Paradise area proceeded at a rapid pace, and in the 1960s, an airport was opened.
From the 1980’s, the area became more recognized in Australia and real estate investments were actively made.
As a result, the Gold Coast has a high concentration of high-rise buildings.
Getting to the Gold Coast
There are three ways to get from the airport to the city.
1 Airport Bus
Tourist shuttles are available from the airport and will take you to major tourist attractions and hotels.
It takes about 30 minutes to get to the Gold Coast city, so make sure you have enough time to get there.
2 Express Bus + Tram
Take the express bus number 777 to Broadbeach South.
You can then take the streetcar to Surfers Paradise.
The trip by bus and streetcar takes an average of 40 minutes.
There is a cab stand in the arrival hall of the airport.
The Gold Coast Cab is a fixed fare, so you can use a cab with no worries.
It is $65 one way.
- A spacious beach that you should visit at least once.
- The view from the observatory is amazing!
- You can feel the nature of the land in the city.
This is a summary of the Gold Coast.
I will be posting more information about Australia in the future, so please stay tuned.
