Hello everyone. I’m @olivertomolife and I’ve studied abroad in Kaohsiung!

I’ve introduced ramen twice before, but this time I was shocked by the ramen.

In Taiwan, there are not many ramen stores run by Japanese, but this store is run by a Japanese.

I really don’t want to tell you about it because it’s too delicious, but I’ll make a special effort to share it with you.

I’m going to introduce you to some of the best ramen you can’t even taste in Japan!

Recommended for the following people
  • People who want to know what ramen is recommended in Kaohsiung
  • Want to know which ramen shops are run by Japanese people in Taiwan
  • Want to try unusual ramen in Kaohsiung

I experienced a working holiday in Kaohsiung for one year from February 2020. I am currently writing a blog based on that experience.

What is Menya Taka?

Kaohsiung ramen

Menya Taka is a ramen restaurant run by a Japanese in Meili dao, Kaohsiung.

It is the only ramen shop in the area of Meili dao, as there are not many ramen shops in the area.

The staff at the store is also Japanese, so I felt like I was in Japan.

If you want a taste of ramen that you can’t get at any other restaurant, this one’s for you!

Menya Taka
  • Access: 5 minutes walk from Melee-jima Station
  • Address: No. 137, Liuhe 1st Road, Xinxing District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 80055
  • Opening hours: Friday – Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Closed: Wednesdays

Exterior of the store

The shop has a red curtain, giving it a newly opened feel.

There is also a menu at the entrance, so you can see what kind of ramen they have!

Atmosphere of the store

The restaurant is divided into table and counter seating.

In front of the counter seats, there is a selection of alcoholic beverages that you can order.

I think it’s great if you’re looking for a place to have some drinks while you eat your ramen!

I felt like I was in a Japanese ramen shop.

How to Order and Points to Note

There is a menu list at your table, so write down your order before going to the cashier.

The bill must be paid in advance, and only cash is accepted.

Recommended menu

There are two types of ramen: the creamy type of Tendo Ramen and the spicy Hell Ramen.

You can choose between these two types of products with different ingredients.

They also had chashu rice bowl, mentaiko rice, and more!

Taste of the dishes

Kaohsiung Ramen

The dishes we ordered arrived!

I ordered the Tendo Tonkotsu Ramen and doubles.

The total cost was $220 Taiwan dollars.

The creamy soup is filled with green onions, bean sprouts, and chashu pork.

First, I drank from the broth, and the creamy flavor spread in my mouth, most delicious!

The noodles are thin and easily absorbed the flavor of the soup, so I ate it up quickly.

It was a good decision to order a second bowl of noodles.

Next time, I’d like to try the spicy hell ramen!
