What is a koala?

koala Australia

The koala is a vertebrate, marsupial animal classified in the family Koalaidae.

Their body color is characterized by a gray back and a white abdomen.

They are found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia in Australia.

The koala population had been declining for a while, but the decline has been controlled by the activities of conservation groups.

Koala biology

Koalas tend to be solitary animals and are often found in trees.

They rarely come down to the ground, but sometimes they do when moving through the trees.

Their natural enemies are hawks and other birds of prey, and they are sometimes attacked by foxes and stray dogs when they get off the ground.

They are herbivores and eat eucalyptus leaves and other plants as their staple food.

Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous, but koalas digest and absorb the toxins by breaking them down.
