What are the three places you can’t miss when sightseeing in Melbourne?

1 Flinders Street Station

Flinders Street Station Melbourne

Located on the city’s main street, Flinders Street Station was opened in 1854 as Australia’s first train station.

With its ingenious yellow design, the area in front of the station is always busy and attracts many visitors.

The station is always crowded with visitors. It is a bit like Tokyo Station in Japan.

Serving as Melbourne’s central railroad station, it is served by two lines.

At the entrance, the world time is displayed so you can check the time in different parts of the world.

There are stores and fancy cafes in the basement of the station, so if you need a break, go ahead!

Flinders Street Station
  • Address: Flinders St, Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia

2 St. Patrick’s Cathedral

St. Patrick's Cathedral

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a Gothic cathedral, named after the Irish saint Patricius.

As you get off the streetcar and walk down the street, you will see a large, glorious building that welcomes visitors.

It is said to be one of the largest churches in Australia, and the chorus of the Catholic University of Australia is also performed inside.

The exterior is designed in green tones, not flashy, but I felt it was a place of dignity.

It’s also nice that it’s easily accessible from the Fitzroy Gardens streetcar station.

St. Patrick's Cathedral

When you walk into the church, you’ll be amazed at how high the ceiling is!

The stained glass windows also shine as they are gently enveloped by the light from outside.

The local faithful reaffirm that this is a very sacred place.

At night, the church is lit up, so you can see it in a different light than during the day.

There is also a souvenir store, so take a look around.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral
  • Address: 1 Cathedral Pl, East Melbourne VIC 3002 Australia
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 5:30pm

3 ArtVo

Melbourne Artvo

ArtVo is a place where you can enjoy various kinds of trick art and is popular among the locals.

There is a reception desk at the entrance where you can buy a ticket.

It costs $28 for adults and $18 for children, and can be purchased online.

The inside of the museum is huge, so I think you need to give yourself enough time.

After you buy your ticket, the shopkeeper will give you a detailed explanation on how to take pictures!

This is the kind of art that is on display.

I’d recommend going with more than one person!

ArtVo
  • Address: Shop NCF, 07 Level/1 26 Star Cres, Docklands VIC 3008 Australia
  • Opening hours: Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm Saturday and Sunday 10am – 6pm
  • Temporarily closed as of September 2021

What is Melbourne?

Melbourne city

Melbourne is a city in the state of Victoria on the southeast coast of Australia.

With a population of 5.08 million as of 2019, it is also known as the second largest city after Sydney.

It is popular with many international students because rents are cheaper than in Sydney.

On the other hand, there are no distinct seasons, and the daily temperature can easily change.

For this reason, it is important to dress appropriately in Melbourne.

From the airport to the city, it is necessary to take a bus, but there is a plan to build an airport railroad.

It is scheduled to be completed in 2029, so it’s a long way off…

Summary

Melbourne city
  • Australia’s oldest train station is a sight to behold!
  • The cathedral is majestic!
  • Artvo, where you can enjoy a wide variety of trick art.

This is a list of recommended sightseeing spots in Melbourne!

There are still other places I recommend, so I’ll be introducing them as needed.

There are more places to visit, so I will keep introducing them as I go.
