Hello everyone. I’m @olivertomolife and I’ve studied abroad in Sydney!
Sydney is famous for the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, but you can’t forget Hyde Park.
It’s the oldest park in Australia, and the grounds are huge!
There are many people spending their free time in the park and I think it is the best place to read or relax.
Let me introduce you to the attractions of Hyde Park!
I experienced studying abroad in Sydney for a year starting in 2018. Now I’m writing a blog based on that experience.
By reading this post, you’ll get to know about Hyde Park!
What is Hyde Park?
It is the oldest park in Australia, named after London, England in 1810.
Its large promenade and wide, long spaces welcome visitors on weekdays and weekends.
It’s a great place to have a picnic, play a musical instrument, or do whatever you like without being bothered by anyone.
Why don’t you relax when you are tired of sightseeing in Sydney or when you are tired of studying or working?
3 of the best places around!
1 St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney
This is a Gothic style Catholic cathedral built of sandstone between 1868 and 1928.
It’s a very historic building and I remember it being so beautiful that I was speechless when I first saw it.
I remembered that every time I went there before, the buses for guided tours stopped.
You can tour the inside too, so go ahead and take a look!
2 Pullman Sydney Hyde Park
This 5-star hotel in Australia is a great choice for those who want to see Hyde Park from above.
This hotel group is located in various major cities in Australia and is also known as a place where you can get the best service.
The hotel is equipped with a swimming pool and a gym, and would be a great place to spend your vacation.
3 The Canopy
This cafe offers a view of Hyde Park and is popular among locals.
The coffee and food are reasonably priced, so go for it!
It is also very close to the train station, so it is a good place to go even if it is your first time in Sydney.
Park Features and Points to Note
Features include its size of about 16 hectares and the fact that there are two stations in the park.
There’s the ANZAK War Memorial in the front and the Archibald Fountain in the back!
The park is also a place where you can feel the history of Australia, with statues of great men and women.
On weekends, you can watch live street performances and performances for free, so be sure to go!
There is also a car selling ice cream and crepes on weekends.
One thing to note is that there are not many restrooms in the park, so you might want to be careful.
In the winter time, the temperature can easily change, so bring a jacket.
Also, there are sometimes homeless people in the park, so be careful.
Other times, gum is thrown out on the street, so watch your step.
Conclusion
- Hyde Park is the oldest park in Australia.
- Cathedral in the vicinity is also recommended.
- There are memorials, fountains and statues in the park.

I’ve just given you an overview of what Hyde Park has to offer!
Please stay tuned for more information about Australia in the future.
